August 2nd one of my favorite Christian Rock bands Skillet, released their 10th studio album called Victorious.

I for one thought this is their best album yet. There’s something about the album that reminds me of the 90’s and that’s probably why I like it so much.

This won’t be a detailed review, but I’ll talk about some of my favorites from the Victorious album and without looking at the actual meaning of the songs. I’ll be saying what I think they mean.

As the title implies, this album is about being Victorious over any bad circumstances or depression or whatever people say about you.

Reach

My first favorite song in the album is Reach.

Which is the song that reminds me of the 90’s. It just has a cool guitar sound that sounds like it should be in a Mega Man game or something. If there was a track with just the guitar I could listen to it for hours.

The song starts of with:

You were the only one to see

secrets locked inside of me.

You were the only one.

So tell me were you’ve gone.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Verse 2
No one could ever get me more
No one could ever fix me more
The message of the song seems to be someone who understands that God is the only one to see their secrets as the song goes
“You were only one to see, secrets locked inside of me” and that (in verse 2) “No one could ever get me more, No one could ever fix me more”
but at the same time they wonder where He is at times, like in the first verse of the song again
“You were the only one to see, secrets locked inside of me. You were the only one. So tell me were you’ve gone”
and is asking God to never leave them and to reach for them.
Terrify the Dark
My second favorite song in the Victorious album is Terrify the Dark.
This is one of Skillet’s softer songs, that I’m beginning to really like. The message in this song is very true and comforting as the message of the song says
Your Light will terrify the dark
Meaning that the Light of Jesus terrifies and chases away all darkness and fears and we need to trust in his love and in the light that He brings.
Save Me
My third favorite song in the Victorious album is Save Me.
This song is a little more edgy and more on the emotional side of the message about someone asking for God or someone to come and save them as the song goes
This is the place that no one sees.
I don’t like to show.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So won’t you reach out your hand to save, to save me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What are you waiting for, someone save me.
Victorious
My fourth favorite song in the Victorious album is the title track Victorious.
It’s a mix between soft and rock and I think the message of this song is about overcoming what other people think about you. Like how they seem to judge for no reason, as the song starts of like
 I hear ’em talk to me
But they’re not listening.
The words are kerosene.
They don’t know who I am.
They’d never understand
What it’s like to be me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In all this loneliness, and all this emptiness.

Been stuck inside this room like a prison sentence.

I’m not gonna stay, tell me there’s a way.

High above it all (Above it all)

Victorious, victorious.

Far too long I’ve grown (Far too long)

In hopelessness, I’m over this.

This song is filled with words of encouragement about always being victorious over however depressed you may be feeling or whatever people may say about you.

Anchor

My fifth favorite song in the Victorious album is Anchor.

Which has basically the same meaning as Save Me, but is another one of Skillet’s softer songs about someone needing help and trusting in God for His help. As the song goes

You are my Anchor. So steady me, steady me now.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On to Your promise I’m clinging
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You gave me Your breath, and told me to rest
